Detailed Tours Description Day 1: Terelj National ParkIn the morning we will leave for Terelj located about 80 km Northeast of Ulaanbaatar. It is part of Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. Terelj with its granite rocks, pine trees and river is a picturesque area that is perfect for relaxing. There are good possibilities for hiking, climbing, horseback riding or, for those who are not afraid of the cold, swimming. There are several places for dinner. At the end of the afternoon we will drive back to Ulaanbaatar or overnight in a Ger Camp. In Terelj National Park we offer family stay. The family is close to the Turtle rock, the 100 monk's cave, and many beautiful landscapes. Terelj is the perfect place to do a trekking or horse riding in a real Mongolian surrounding. Our family stay in Terelj offer a real experience of nomadic lifestyle. You will not stay in a classical ger camp (settlements organized for tourists), but you will stay in a Mongolian family, living in a ger, rearing animals, producing local products such as yoghurt, cheese and much more. Staying with a Mongolian Nomad family is a much greater experience than staying in a ger camp, and it goes for a cheaper price. Possible activities are trekking, horse riding or canoeing. Day 2: ZuunmodWe will leave Terelj around lunch time and drive through the Mongolian steppes. After some hours of driving we will reach Zuunmod, capital city of Tov aimag (province). We will walk around and visit the Central Province Museum. This museum gives a good summary of local geology, flora and fauna. Day 3: Manzshir MonasteryToday we will explore Manzshir Monastery. The monastery is located 8 km from Zuunmod in Boghdkhan National Park. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful rolling hills covered with pine and cedar trees. The place is dotted with granite formation creating a mystical atmosphere. We can understand why monks settled here to live their religious life. The monastery was established in 1733 and included more than 20 temples and 350 monks. Tragically, it was destroyed during the Stalinist purges of 1937. We will spend the afternoon hiking around the ruins of the Monastery. We will see the two-tonnes bronze cauldron and pay a visit to the small monastery museum. The courageous will walk up the hill behind the main monastery and enjoy the great view on the valley. At the end of the afternoon we will drive back to Ulaanbaatar.
