1st day

Upon arrival at the airport we will be welcomed by your guide. He will bring us to your comfortable, centrally located hotel.

In the afternoon we will have a drive to Zaisan Memorial, build by the Russians to commemorate unknown soldiers from different wars. Located on a Southern hill of Ulaanbaatar, we will be able to enjoy an excellent view of the capital and the surrounding countryside.

In the evening enjoy a welcome diner in one of the best restaurants of Ulaanbaatar. (Hotel, L, D)

2nd day

Today we will fly to Tsetserleg in Arhangai province by twin engine turbo prop aircraft. On our arrival we will drive around this small town, and visit the marketplace. Later we will drive across Tsaagan pass to Tayhir and pitch camp by the Tamir or Chuluut River. We will meet with local herdsmen, and try the luck in the river.

(Camping, B, L, D)

3rd day

After breakfast we will drive from Tayhir 150 km to Tariat. We will drive through the mountain forest steppe zone. Mixed coniferous forest is found on the cooler, moister northern slopes whereas steppe vegetation predominates other slopes. We will camp on a beautiful spot by the beautiful Terhiin Tsaagan Lake, devoid of any boats.

Pike (Esox lucius) is numerous here and no one know how large they grow here. There is also Lenok Trout (Brachymistax lenok) in the lake. Spin fishing is recommended and a float ring could be handy to bring.

(Camping, B, L, D)

4th to 6th day

Three full days have been set aside for this extremely scenic and dramatic area dominated by the Terhiin Tsaagan Lake and the extinct Horgo volcano crater and its adjacent lava fields. The elevation is 2060m above sea level. The Sumin River, a tributary of the Chuluut, drains the lake. It flows through some nearby dramatic canyons.

Certainly Northern Pike is found, as well as Taimen Salmon (Hucho taimen) and Arctic Graylings (Thymallus arcticus arcticus). The Taimen is the largest of the Salmonidae family reaching up to 2 meters! The Grayling reach up to of 40-50 cm here.

(Camping, B, L, D)

7th day

We will drive north along the wide steppe valley of the Khanui River toward Erdenemandal. Full day drive and pitch camp en route.

(Ger Camp, B, L, D)

8th To 11th day

We will now come into the northernmost sub province of Arhangai. Depending on the river levels we will reach different fishing spots. Lenok can grow extremely large here (up to 110cm) and taimen is certainly present.

(Ger Camp, B, L, D)

12th day

Today we will start our journey back towards Ulaanbaatar. We will drive south through Arhangai province, and pitch camp at the confluence of the Tamir and Orkhon Rivers, in a genuine steppe area. Certainly, there is fish around here too!

(Camping, B, L, D)

13th day

Full day drive to the Mongolian capital across the steppes. En route we will be able to make two stops in the south area of Bulgan province, and visit the ruins of Aftan Khans Palace that stand out on the steppe. And a brief stop at a lake, where we will reach the surfaced trunk road at Lun.

(Hotel, B, L, D)

14th day

Day at leisure in the Mongolian capital.

(Hotel, B, D)

15th day

Transfer to the airport and departure for your next destination or extended journey in Mongolia.
