National Costume FestivalThe traditional dress of the Mongols has a rich history spanning many centuries. It is closely connected with the Mongolian way of life, the climate and the country. The Mongolian deel is a robe-like garment that has no pockets. The deel is worn with a thin silk sash several yards long tightly wound around the waist.
The National Costume Festival takes place annually at Gorhi-Terelj National Park, 65 km east of Ulaanbaatar. During the festival, customs of various Mongolian minorities will be exhibited. You will learn more about Mongolian customs and clothing tradition.
During the festival, folk dances of the Mongolian minorities and traditional folk music will be played. Famous Mongolian throat singing will also perform.
Deel's are the National dress costume of Mongolia. They are tailored to be comfortable and practical. When designed the gender, the age, the ethnic origin and the time of the year is taken into account. Each ethnic group has its own style of deel, distinguishable by color, cut, and decoration. In summer the Mongols wear a light deal or frock, in spring, autumn and winter the Mongols wear a wadded deal.
