Ice festival

Each year in February local people from Hovsgol celebrate the Festival of Ice at -35°C on the Khovsgol Lake or along the shores of the lake.

During this two days festival, visitors will also have the opportunity for dog-sledding on the lake and to watch the National Folklore Concert, the reindeer sleigh event and ger building with ice. Several competitions are organized such as ice wrestling, ice skating, horse sledding competition and Ankle Bone Shooting.

There is also a shamanist offering ceremony that offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into the Tsaatan people’s way of life and the shaman culture. Those interested can travel to Horidol Saridag Mountain to meet a reindeer breeding family and explore their traditions and nomadic lives.
