Eagle festival

Deep within the Altai Mountains of West Mongolia, perpetuated by the Kazak minority of Mongolia, an ancient tradition of hunting with Golden Eagles is still alive. For ages Kazak people train their eagles to hunt and one a year the Kazak people gather to celebrate this traditional skill and to compete against each other. During those competitions the ability of the trainer and the birth are tested.

The festival will begin with the hunters displaying their traditional Kazakh dress and their eagle's equipment and ornaments. For the next 2 days you will observe an exciting and authentic event which consists not only on eagle hunter's competitions, but also other Kazakh traditional games.

This annual gathering of Kazakhs is known as Mongolia's Golden Eagle festival and has become increasingly popular with tourists.
